AKDER has requested from The Ministry of National Education that a juristical and administive investigation should be opened about Director of National Education in Kestel town of Province of Bursa, Mr. Gültekin Özcan. Because, he expelled parent of a student, Sevda Can, from the meeting of Advisory Committee of Kestel Town due to her wearing of headscarf.

 4th seminar of AKDER Saturday Seminars called “Introduction to Philosophy of Continental Europe-What is dialectic? was performed. The following questions were answered by Süheyb Öğüt: How consciousness arised?  How consciousness work? Is objective information possible? What is the meaning of differentiation between subject and object? Did Hegel solve the opposition between historic and transcendental? What kind of relation was there between total and partial?.

Damla Işık, who is working in Western Connecticut State University as an antropolog, visited our vice president for her study which is about ‘ STK’s and their positions in Turkey.’ She took information about the problem of headscarf’s human rights and its political dimension.

Our vice president made a statement to the press about criminal complaint that was made by Association of Europe Republic Women concerning minister’s wives of headscarf. It was expressed that the arguments, which their wives act improperly to the law and of clothing and they can not represent Turkish women, are not legal and it confuses the public opinion.

AKDER has sent a 4-year report of violation of rights to United Nation, Human Rights Committee. The report was about the difficulties for covered women in education, employment and political area and how Turkey has prevented them using their rights according to the International conventions.

Cagla Menderes who  prepares a documentary for National Television Channel of Greece, visited AKDER. She shot video with our General Secretary and interviewed with our Deputy President.

Youth NGO of ‘Bilgi’ visited AKDER. They asked about the activities of AKDER concerning young people’s interests. A discussion on the impact of headscarf ban and problems of women on problems of young people.

TV Programme of ‘Freedom on Streets’ broadcasted on Su TV made an interview with AKDER’s Vice President and asked about our view on ‘November the 25th: Day for struggle for ending violence against women’.  She stated that it is easier and has no meaning  of just expressing our opposing view against violence against women. And she added that what should be done is to propose concrete solutions to the problem.

Our vice president has been selected among the most effective 500 Muslims in the world according to the study of Georgetown University. The study has been performed by Jordan Strategic Study Center and focused on the activities and studies of the person in 2009. Our Vice-president has been seen in “development” section in the list containing 20 names from Turkey.

Maggie Ponayne and Selma James from Global Women’ Strike in the United Kingdom which displays activities in more than 60 countries and has coordinators in 13 countries, members from Boğaziçi Women Club has visited AKDER. They discussed the activities of AKDER and activities of Global Women’ Strike which works for payment for housewives as caregivers.

Our vice-president has run a seminary for the students of İstanbul University who faced some problem because of wearing hat. She focused on the legal rights of the students and explained that lecturers did not have right to expel students from the lectures or cancel the lectures.

Fırat Kurt and Burcu Yakut has visited AKDER for a study called “public demographics labor market and women employment in Turkey” supported by TÜBİTAK and Boğaziçi University. Vice president and general secretary of AKDER has informed about the possible causes of failure of women employment.

 President of AKDER has made an application to the Interior Ministry and Denizli Governorship with a request for launching a legal and administrative inquiry against Gürpınar Council on a refusal of a marriage application of a woman who gave a photo with headscarf.
