AKDER has requested from The Ministry of National Education that a juristical and administive investigation should be opened about Director of National Education in Kestel town of Province of Bursa, Mr. Gültekin Özcan. Because, he expelled parent of a student, Sevda Can, from the meeting of Advisory Committee of Kestel Town due to her wearing of headscarf.

 4th seminar of AKDER Saturday Seminars called “Introduction to Philosophy of Continental Europe-What is dialectic? was performed. The following questions were answered by Süheyb Öğüt: How consciousness arised?  How consciousness work? Is objective information possible? What is the meaning of differentiation between subject and object? Did Hegel solve the opposition between historic and transcendental? What kind of relation was there between total and partial?.

Our vice president’s announce was issued by Tercüman newspaper for discontinue broadcasting about a program which is featured in ATV called ‘Ah Be Güzelim’ TV Program. It has showed women as silly and objective thing which gave point by the men about failure of general knowledge of the women.

Damla Işık, who is working in Western Connecticut State University as an antropolog, visited our vice president for her study which is about ‘ STK’s and their positions in Turkey.’ She took information about the problem of headscarf’s human rights and its political dimension.

Our vice president made a statement to the press about criminal complaint that was made by Association of Europe Republic Women concerning minister’s wives of headscarf. It was expressed that the arguments, which their wives act improperly to the law and of clothing and they can not represent Turkish women, are not legal and it confuses the public opinion.

AKDER has sent a 4-year report of violation of rights to United Nation, Human Rights Committee. The report was about the difficulties for covered women in education, employment and political area and how Turkey has prevented them using their rights according to the International conventions.

11 Norwegian students of faculty of law, who are working for a helping law Project for Turkish women and running seminaries about this topic, visited our vice president and take ideas about law system and applying about women.

YSK was protested with a press statement because of its circular that banned headscarf to polling clerks. A letter was sent to YSK about giving up this circular that made discrimination or making a new circular which include veiled women can’t vote in public sphere.

AKDER sent a letter to Supreme Election Board which introduced headscarf ban for members of polling boards working at ballot boxes due to alleged reason that they serve in public place. AKDER requested the Board to withdraw it’s discriminatory regulation or otherwise introduce a new regulation banning the use of right to vote for headscarved women in public place around ballot boxes. Comments of our Deputy President, Fatma Benli, JD was pressed in Newspaper of Zaman.

Script of the film will consist of stories of different people and it has been planned that one of the stories will be about what happened in the life of Muslim young woman after the amendment in the Constitution in 2006.

Civil initiative of ‘Lets tell NO to Coups’ carried out a trial of Court of conscience for protesting Coup of March 12th. Our member Fatma Soylemez made a speech there and she delegated the post of jurist to the next Jurist Sacit Adali there, because Our deputy president, Fatma Benli,JD was on duty as jurist for the last conscience Court for the coup of February 28th

Turkish State Minister and EU Negotiator Egemen Bagis held a dialog meeting with representatives of NGOs that can contribute in the process of membership for EU. Neslihan Akbulut and Hilal Yucel Barin attended the meeting on Bhalf of AKDER. More than 1000 attendant and hundreds of NGO were present in the meeting. It was a good as a  first step, however time was limited for such an intensive attendance.

A group of High school students from Netherland visited AKDER. They got information from AKDER about women in Turkey, legal framework about women, and women’s access to education, health and other social services. AKDER’s reports about problems of women in Tukey and other related booklets were given to the gruop members.

On behalf of AKDER Our Deputy President has attended the annual meeting of  Commission on the Status of Women of UN. As well as AKDER, many other NGOs in the status of special consultative from all over the world attended the meeting. AKDER distributed it’s statistical reports why women discriminated due to their clothing can not use their rights equally  in practice. AKDER has also met with Human Rghts Watch and MUBANY (Muslim BAR of Newyork).
