AKDER has requested from The Ministry of National Education that a juristical and administive investigation should be opened about Director of National Education in Kestel town of Province of Bursa, Mr. Gültekin Özcan. Because, he expelled parent of a student, Sevda Can, from the meeting of Advisory Committee of Kestel Town due to her wearing of headscarf.

 4th seminar of AKDER Saturday Seminars called “Introduction to Philosophy of Continental Europe-What is dialectic? was performed. The following questions were answered by Süheyb Öğüt: How consciousness arised?  How consciousness work? Is objective information possible? What is the meaning of differentiation between subject and object? Did Hegel solve the opposition between historic and transcendental? What kind of relation was there between total and partial?.

Our vice president’s announce was issued by Tercüman newspaper for discontinue broadcasting about a program which is featured in ATV called ‘Ah Be Güzelim’ TV Program. It has showed women as silly and objective thing which gave point by the men about failure of general knowledge of the women.

Damla Işık, who is working in Western Connecticut State University as an antropolog, visited our vice president for her study which is about ‘ STK’s and their positions in Turkey.’ She took information about the problem of headscarf’s human rights and its political dimension.

Merve Kütük  and Meryem İlayda met with our vice president because of a study about fixing and detention of discrimination  at university. Our vice president told her ideas about benefit the public service who headscarfed

Our vice president made a statement to the press about criminal complaint that was made by Association of Europe Republic Women concerning minister’s wives of headscarf. It was expressed that the arguments, which their wives act improperly to the law and of clothing and they can not represent Turkish women, are not legal and it confuses the public opinion.

AKDER has sent a 4-year report of violation of rights to United Nation, Human Rights Committee. The report was about the difficulties for covered women in education, employment and political area and how Turkey has prevented them using their rights according to the International conventions.

AKDER has joined the joint press statement of 16 NGOs. Title of the press meeting was ‘Superiority of Law Can Not Be Put Into Cage by Any Coup Including the Premeditated Military Coup of ‘Cage’’ and it was organized by Platform of Lawyers and Jurists. Attempts for military coups and pressure on jurists and public prosecutors  were condemned in the meeting.

Gabriel Schafer, who works in International Culture Lab, had a meeting with Vice President of AKDER and one of our members, Fatma Orgel. She asked our organization’s view about  a joint theater project concerning ‘communication between cultures’ which was to be implemented by Turkey, Germany and U.S.A.

Our Vice President joined the breakfast meeting organized by ONDER (Organization for Graduates of Imam-Hatip High Schools) for the teachers working in Imam-Hatip High Schools. Our Vice President made an address about the importance of function of teachers as role model for students. In addition, she explained the legal province of using lower coefficient to calculate the university admission examination scores of  graduates of vocational high schools including Imam-Hatip High Schools.

President of AKDER, sent a condemnation letter to the Consulate of Egypt for condemning the attack of Egyptian Security Forces against the convoy of humanitarian help for Gaza City. She stated that preventing of humanitarian help contradicts with our social responsibility as humans living in the Same World.

Although columnist Nihal Bengisu was one of the invited guests by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, she was not given visa due to not submitting a document showing her husband’s approval for the visit. Newspaper of Haberturk interviewed with AKDER’s president. It was stated that despite Saudi Arabia had right to imply some measures for the security, they should have given up negative implications against women visitors for hajj and umrah.

Directorate General on the Status of Women held a meeting on the activities of the directorate in 2007 and the Minister concerning with women issues attended the meeting. Our deputy president also talked in the meeting and she emphasized the importance of negative impact of insufficient Juristic processes on women issues and said that without lifting the headscarf ban we can not fully use women rights in Turkey.

Our Deputy Presedent Fatma Benli, JD and Secretary General Neslihan Akbulut went to Nort Cyprus and presented  seminars about ‘women rights in theory and problems in practice’ in Famagusta and Nicosia by accepting the invitation of  Organisation of Universal Love and Solidarity of Turkish Republic of Nort Cyprus (ESKAD).

Istanbul Bar decided to unify the center for women rights and child rights with the general service of the Bar that present free service for all who need. Therefore, instead of the lawyers who got special traning about women and child rights, the Bar will direct women and children to any of the lawyers of the Bar. Newspaper of Radikal made an interview with Our Deputy President Fatma Benli, JD and she said that this  decision of the Bar will be withdrawn.

Home Minister of United Kingdom made an address in Bahcesehir University titled ‘Status of women in modern societies and tolerans for strauggling against radicalism’ and then a reception was held and Our Deputy President Fatma Benli, JD joined the reception. She talked to Home Minister and stated that as long as  women wearing headscarves are prevented from education and work, participation of women to social life and strengthening of women in  individual aspect can never be achieved fully.

Our Deputy President Fatma Benli, JD conducted a seminar in Ensar Foundation , the subject of the seminar was ‘Legal aspect of the Headscarf Ban and our rights’. AKDER’s book ‘Headscarf; A Reality that can not be hidden’ and general reports about women rights were distributed.
