Kocaeli University Science-Literature Faculty’s students faced with a new year’s surprise from the dean, when they arrived at school in frozen weather: at school scarves, berets, gloves and rain-hoods are forbidden! Since the weather was getting cold and snowing, students naturally wore their scarves, beret, gloves, and rain-hood and arrived at school. At the main entrance of the faculty they came across an announcement: “NOTICE: Inside the Faculty, wearing RAIN-HOOD, HAT, BERET etc. is forbidden. Science- Literature Faculty’s Dean Office”

Girls wearing headscarf led out during Distance Education Exam
Headscarf crisis was seen in Denizli during a distance education exam. 40 students were led out of the exam room because of their scarves. They protested the decision in the Denizli High school grounds.

She was expelled from Distance Education High school’s Exam
During distance education high school exam, students were led out of the exam room and after a while were allowed to go back. However when they entered the exam room, they were reported by reason of “arriving late to the exam.” The school director, Ersan Yılmaz visited each room and removed girls wearing the headscarf. The expelled students could not stop crying. After an hour waiting in the school garden, Yılmaz allowed them to go back to the exam rooms, but reported that they came late for the exam.

Free Thought and Right to Education Organization (Ozgur-Der) sued for closure
Ozgur-der was sued because the members of the organization protested against official ceremonies, during which women wearing headscarves were not allowed to attend, expelled from the ceremonial places and insulted. They decided neither to attend those ceremonies nor
to send their kids to them. Because of this, Fatih Civil Court of First Instance sued the organization and demanded to be closed up by reason of being contrary to the code of organizations, article 30/1-a-b and the civil code, article 89/1.

I came to school with a piercing, am I reported?
The Bosporus University which is famous as the castle of freedom among higher educational institutions is now another struggle for freedom. University students supported their friends while they were giving their defenses. Since their friends were investigated because of their scarves or berets, some other students gave their opinions and wrote “I have a piercing, and am worried that I will be investigated because of my piercing too.”

Newspaper of Taraf has reached an official document proving that ten years ago, Full General Kivrikoglu had said 'the impact of (postmodern coup of) the February 28th will last for thousand years'.
The document is an official document of First Air Force Command of Turkish Air Force Command, dated October 2007,numbered ISTH: 590-07/IKKS. The document has a title of 'Confidential document' and written subject of the document is 'Evaluation of destructive, seperationist and reactionist activities in Province of Eskisehir'. The document has signature of Chief of Staff Air Force, Mehmet Sanver, Air Commodore. Newspaper of Taraf published the document and the following paragraphs were written in the document:
''1. All kinds of confirmed and unconfirmed information and any indication about destructive, seperationist and reactionist activities were asked to be collected, in accordance with related decree of (a). Therefore, we have been reporting the information about destructive, seperationist, reactinist organisations and their activities in Eskisehir post, by appropriate means and as soon as we get them.
2. We hav been collecting information from intelligence reports of Major Army Commands, local and national media, local police units, meeting notes of Security Council of the Province, reports high school lessons of 'National Security' and from oral and written applications of the staff.
3. We present the collected information about Eskisehir post to your attention in annex and the information was categorised into three headings of destructive, seperationist and reactionist activities. ''
This document is a supporting evidence for the statement of Full General Kivrikoğlu that the impact of (postmodern coup of) the February 28th will last for a thousand years. Because we learn by this document that army have been keeping records of people of a big Province (Eskisehir) and blacklisted some of them, even in 2007 which is ten years after then the postmodern coup. Reports proving that the coup have been lasting shows that records were kept even for ecah district of Province of Eskisehir. Records about organisations, laber unions, schools, cafes, hospitals, drugstores and even Ataturkist ideology associations were kept. It draws attention that existence of 'crime factor' was not a necessicity for keeping records of an organisation. Picnicing, playing saz, singing and selling wig was an sufficient reason for being recorded by army. Names of recorded organisations, people and companies were written in the Army reports. Each store and bulding in streets of Eskisehir was recorded in reports and even primary school students were recorded as making 'reactionist activities'. Legal political parties, NGO's and associations were labeled as 'reactionist' or 'seperationist'... Even Ataturkist ideology association was included in reports. Some people labeled as 'reactionist, seperationist and dectructive' by alleged reasons of picnicing, joining political acitivities or selling wig... In the beginnig, report elucidates it's own sources of information and we see that information was gathered from intelligence reports of Major Army Commands, local and national media, local police units, meeting notes of Security Council of the Province, reports high school lessons of 'National Security' and from oral and written applications of the staff...In the report that was prepared by Eskisehir Air Force Commander, the biggest part was allocated 'reactionist activities'. A woman teacher who was alleged by wearing wig in school was recorded either. Following statements written in the report for that woman teacher: 'We were informed by reports of National Security Lessons that Fatma Ozdemir who is a theology teacher in Ataturk vocatinal high school have been wearing wig in the school. Chief of Teachers' Union of Egitim Bir-Sen made an statement and said that women wearing headscarf had been deprived from right to work and education.'

Transsexual and headscarved women not allowed!
Transsexuals were driven away from Can Yücel Avenue in Izmir. The street is famous for its intellectual and art-lover customers. Miko Café in the avenue does not allow transsexual customers. The café asked transsexual customers coming to the café with their friends, who had booked previously, to leave the place. They showed their objective position by saying that “we do not accept women wearing the headscarf either.”

Headscarf Crisis during Turkish National Anthem Programme
At the 88th anniversary of the Turkish national anthem’s admission, a bunch of events were organized in Diyarbakir Culture Centre. Military officers attending the ceremony left the room before the ceremony when they saw a woman wearing the headscarf sitting at the protocol side. Although that woman was taken to the visitors’ side, they refused to come back and attend the ceremony. The governors, Huseyin Avni was told about the situation by Chief Public Prosecutor, Durdu Kavak while they were recorded by the camera of Ihlas News Agent (IHA) and were not aware of it.

An Awful Situation in GATA (Gulhane Military Medical Academy)
Captain Sadik Guray Balatekin was expelled from the Turkish Army Forces in 1999 because his wife was wearing the headscarf. His gun, ID card and social security ID were taken back. His wife was suffering from stomach cancer and was in GATA. She was discharged immediately and died 20 days later.

The High Board of Election passed a 2009/8decision. By this decision, women wearing the headscarf were not allowed to be an examiner officer of the vote boxes during the day of the election. The argument behind the decision was that the election room was a public sphere and the examiners were serving for the state. They were obliged to obey the general regulations of state officers.

Soner Ercin who let two student girls wearing headscarves enter the Middle East Technical University (METU) , firstly was demoted to a post in ‘cleaning service’, then given a punishment of ‘deduction from salary’ and now ‘discharged’.
Soner Ercim let two students wearing headscarves enter the University just after a new amendment in the Constitution was approved by 411 Parliaments that introduce freedom to the Universities for letting students wearing headscarves; at that time, University Administration punished him by demotion to the cleaning service. Ercim applied to the Head Office of Higher Education Council and complained about the injustice he experienced. Then, METU let him work again his own job in the security department. However, this time METU employed him only in front of the doors that trucks would come in, instead of his old work place in front of student entries. Ercim sued a case for the cancellation of the punishment of deduction from the salary. During this case was under evaluation, a second investigation was started about him and he was accused of ‘causing caos’ by letting students wearing headscarves enter the University. Before the investigation has concluded and the Court has made a decision, he was discharged.

Malike Uludag won the election and became the mayor of Islahiye Municipalityin Gaziantep. Although she conducted her campaign with her scarf on, she got the election by wearing a wig. Her husband was the former mayor. They went together with a group of their party members to the judicial court. After the ceremony she took office.

Headscarf lesson to Turkish University from a Professor of Harvard
Gulden Esat is an expert psychologist working in Istanbul. Esat who has a master’s degree on school psychology from USA contacted Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University to join the seminar on ‘Five Brain Types of Future”. She has all the required features but an unexpected problem emerged: Her headscarf. Organization officers told her that she must take her headscarf off. She told she can’t accept this and told other participants and Howard Gardner about her situation. Prof. Gardner called the psychologist and said “We are so sorry about your situation. We invite you to another seminar we will cover in Holland and promise to allow your expenses.” Esat accepted this special invitation and went to the seminar in holland two months before the seminar in Turkey. Gardner immediately recognize her since she was the only headscarfed women in the seminar. He told her that “Not happened in Turkey, but happened in Holland. We are happy to welcome you here.”

Headscarf Shock of Arınc’s Assistant
AK Party Manisa deputy Bulent Arinc’s assistant, Mehmet Buker brought his daughter to an official ceremony with her two children. Judge in Fatih sent away veiled woman
A veiled woman was driven away by a woman judge in court where she went to demand her right. The judge, Ayla Kara first warned Naciye Sonmez who came to the court action for damages about her divorced husband because of her attire. And she demanded Naciye Sonmez to take her veil off. Dönmez refused to take her dress off and judge Kara decided not to try her case and closed her court trial by reason of Sonmez’s attire as against Kemalist principles. Public Prosecutor of Anaya sued a criminal case about 17 people who attended a press release together with their children. The Prosecutor accused by ‘abusing parental right and solicitation of others to this crime’. Nurgül Yılmaz, an obstetrician/gynecologist, would send her children to ENKA Sport Facilities and applied to the same Institution for getting tennis lessons from professionals. She was shocked when she got an interesting reply to her application; people from ENKA asked her sign ‘a document listing conditions for membership’ but at the same time they make a warning that she will not be let playing tennis in their institutions if she wore headscarf. 6. Article of conditions for membership requires adopting ‘I will wear modern sport cloths in sport places and not make propaganda of any political view’ and she was informed that due to this article, she can not learn and play tennis while she was wearing headscarf. She is really upset that a private sports institution can adopt such an approach against people wearing headscarf.

Women Wearing Headscarves Should Reconcile Scathing Criticisms
In the case that was sued against Ugur Dundar for circulating false news, the judge Abdullah Coban made an extraordinary decision and stated ‘Women wearing headscarves should bear scathing criticisms’. After circulating false news about two doctors working Konya Numune Hospital, an action was brought for damages about Ugur Dündar. The case was under evaluation in Konya Civil Court and the judge made a scandalous evaluation in the decision. The judge rejected aggrieved doctors claim for compensation and stated in his decision ‘As a doctor working in state health service, the applicant should reconcile all the criticisms , even though they are scathing due to the mentality under wearing headscarf in contrast to exact sciences and rationalism that she learned during her medical education. Therefore, her case was not justified and rejected.’

The headscarf ban was included in “the doorkeeper’s regulation”.
The headscarf ban was rested on supposals regulation of apartment doorkeeper service by a manager of an apartment in İzmir. A manager of an apartment near Konak country’s border in Yenihaneler locality notified the regulation prepared by herself to whom she employed as doorkeeper. This regulation’s 17. item contains limiting rules on religious rights of doorkeeper’s wife, children and himself. The manager who sees headscarf as a political sign wrote the following statements to the so-called regulation; Doorkeeper’s wife, children and he can not walk around with cap, shindig and clog. Also his wife and his daughters can not wear headscarves that became a political sign. They can not worship in a place that anybody can see them or he can not make his religious duties an excuse for postponing his Works. Figen Tüzün is an apartment manager in Eski İzmir Street who hired a doorkeeper under those conditions discharged him before he completed one year in his workplace. She showed a reason that hi violated 25. item of 4857 numbered industrial law several times. The occupants say:” he was employed because he disobeyed to the manager. Seriner claims that the manager dismissed him due to the 17. Item of the regulation. He says ‘About three months ago my wife’s brother and his wife came visiting us. The manager makes a fuss about my brother’s wife’s headscarf. She asked her take of her headscarf. At that time we argued with the manager. This event is the beginning of my dismissal.

Headscarved or bearded people were not taken into condolence home at military housing
Orhan Çiftçi was working as a civil servant at command build in architecture property’s branch office when he died. Then his relatives of the family came for condolence to his home but they were not admitted to the command build because they were headscarfed or bearded. Orhan Çiftçi was a civil servant and he lived at officers’ club near Erzurum high school who died from heart attack last Friday. When Çiftçi’s corpse is carrying away to the morgue his relatives started to came for condolence his home. But this condolence visiting turn into cruelty because Orhan Çiftçi’s house was in the command build. The soldiers in regular army stick out Çiftçi’s relatives: “have a shave and get in”, also they say same thing his headscarfed relatives: “put of headscarf and get in. So his brother in law‘s house was opened as a condolence house in Sanayi at Edip Somunoğlu street. Thereupon Orhan Çiftçi’s relatives condole with Çiftçi’s family at this house.

She wear ban her neck and a minute was drawn about her
A student in Malatya when entering University entrance exam (OSS), she take of her ban and wore it on her neck, but masters of the exam drawn a minute about her then she complained to the police about whom drawn a minute about her. A woman, named H.Ç(31), entered OSS exam in Hacı Hasan Kavuk Çıraklık Education Center in Malatya. A student in Malatya when entering University entrance exam (OSS), she take of her ban and wore it on her neck, but masters of the exam drawn a minute about her then she complained to the police about whom drawn a minute about her. She stated ‘I took of my headscarf and put it on my neck. I enter the exam and go on like this until the end of the exam. The officer warned me about taking of my headscarf from my neck but I did not obey to them.” After the exam they drawn a minute about her, but they wrote down that she wore headscarf on her head, and they said to her that her exam paper would be cancelled. Then, she made a complaint to the police about the false information they wrote on the minute. Police started an investigation about the event.

OSS is done yesterday and it is a persecution for headscarf children. The headscarf adjustment in university at oath-taking ceremony
Students of Medical Faculty of Zonguldak karaelmas university had a Hippocratic Oath ceremony in their graduation. Headscarved relatives of students who came for the ceremony to the university were warned by officer that their headscarf should be linked under their chin.
Upon officers warnings, some parents linked their headscarves under their and only then they could enter the auditorium. The officers made a last check about headscarved women before starting the ceremony. Two women who did not link their ban under their chin were warned lastly by the officers. Headscarved parents could watch the ceremony after linking their headscarves under their chin.

University Entrance Exams of 196 students were invalidated and reasons were as follows: 52 cheating, 21 disobedience of clothing rules(wearing headscarf), 26 absence of ID and exam ID, 61 behavior against rules, 4 absence of answer sheet, 11 personal substitution. The most successful schools were social sciences schools. All students from these schools who applied for exam passed the lowest mark of 165. Official sciences schools followed them with a success rate of 99.86.While Imam Hatip high schools had a success rate of 79.35, afternoon schools were on the bottom of the list with 36.13 success rate.

The governor blamed the mayor from MHP political party
Yusuf Ziya Günaydın, the mayor of Isparta had asked the governor Ali Haydar Öner whether a covered woman could join the city council meeting and whereupon Hatice Çakır from AKP had to put a wig on her headscarf to be able to join in. When the public became aware of the situation the governor announced a statement. Öner said that it was not appropriate asking opinion from governorship but home office on the matter. He suggested that existing laws and rules were applied for Hatice Çakır, a member of city council. He added that the situation was assessed according to the general rules and laws practiced in Turkey without any removal or insertion. The governor said that if a covered woman could enter the parliament hall then she could enter the city council comparing the city council and the parliament and that they were not become a party to any action. He added that using the matter to develop tension or polemic would not be useful for anyone.

There is a pressure about dressing on wives of lecturers in KTU
Wife of Assoc. Prof Uğur Çevik who is a lecturer in physics department said that she had a problem in university residence area due to wearing headscarf and even going for shopping became a problem. She said that they have been living there for 10 years but this event had become a last straw. She said that 1.5 year ago inconceivable thing happened when they went to a restaurant in residence and waitresses told that she could not enter the restaurant because of her headscarf. Whereupon she said that her husband was a lecturer in KTU then they told her she could sit at a table behind the pot. Çevik drew attention that 1.5 month ago her relatives were not allowed to enter the residence by reasons of wearing headscarf and then she had to let them in only by car.

Shame of Headscarf Ban in University
After the University Entrance Exam in last June, students who pass the exam and get right to be educated in Universities applied for the registrations yesterday. Students wearing headscarf who get right to enter the universities also went to relate the faculties for registration, but they are not allowed to the university campuses and they had to take of their headscarves in the booths that were prepared for the implication of the ban. Adana Cukurova University prepared a security line 20 mt forward to the entrance of the University for preventing students wearing headscarf from entering the university. Securities who wait in this security line, warned students wearing headscarf about taking their headscarves. Students started taking of their headscarves in the line or just after passing the line. After that, they brought a booth and placed it next to the security line. Students who would come for the registration, warned the students for ‘taking of their headscarves’ in the small booth.

Religious Approval Decision for Headscarf from the Army?
The booklet that was pressed by the Army which always introduce itself as the master guard of the security, caused confusion. General staff of the Army pressed a booklet titled ‘formulation about clothing in public institutions’, and a kind of religious approval for headscarf was written in the booklet. The booklet was distributed by the General staff to soldiers and ‘just for staff of the Army’ was written on it. The booklet says that headscarf was not an order of Kuran. It says ‘There is not a custom like headscarf, chador or veil in Turkish traditions. Headscarf was introduced deliberately to our culture from outside of our nation as symbol of a certain religion. Veil and chador on the other hand were based on Persian and Byzantine Empire’. It was also claimed in the book that statements of the Prophet were used for explaining verses of Kuran related to headscarf by the scholars and these statements were presented like orders of Kuran.

CHP’s City Hall insert the register office to public sphere there is no marriage with boned bride.
The Lord Mayor of Denizli (Republican Peoples Party CHP) did not allow to solemnize on the grounds that against to reformation laws the bone which was put on under the head scarf by women. According to information Expat Ramazan Güngör and his engage applied for marriage with necessary documents and asked photos to Gürpınar City Hall in 24 September.
Ramazan Acar lives Australia and he went to marriage to his country, Denizli, with his family. The registrar, Mehmet Eryılmaz, who took the necessary documents, did not accept its
cause of not acceptable for marriage. The photos are with headscarfed. Meanwhile the groom Ramazan Acar’s Father, Özkan Acar, interfered this prohibitive approach. Thereupon Çivril city civil registry was applied about the issue. Even though Çivril approved these photos for marriage, Gürpınar register office does not find enough its so he did not solemnize the marriage. Also the City Hall wrote a receive about that are out of keeping with register regulation’s 5.pragraph of 20.matter those photos. The doctor said that she can not examine her in this way and asked identity card of the patient. Despite of the ache that she would bear, she went home and brought her identity card. She gave the identity card, this time, the doctor said ‘I can not examine now, the photos in your identity card and health insurance card are not similar, change the photos –by applying related authorities- and come back.’ After this, the patient went to a state hospital that is 2 kilometer far to her and was examined without facing a difficulty.

Ministry of National Education warned: There is not headscarf ban in trips which is organized for students.
Ministry of National Education (MNE) has been organizing trips for students, titled ‘Project of Republican Educational Trips’ for 6 years. In the trip for this year, students wearing headscarf were forced to get off the bus due to alleged headscarf ban. After this event, MNE warned schools and education departments of all Provinces. In the letter signed by the undersecretary of MNE, Muammer Yaşar Ozgül, it was stressed that ‘students do not have to comply with the clothing regulation during trips’.

The Party was in Dedeman Hotel and drinking was free in the party. Chairman of Chamber of Commerce, Eyüp Sabri Ertekin, also joined the party with his wife wearing headscarf. However, a charged person warned him about his wife’s headscarf and soon after Mr. And Ms. Ertekin left the party. Firstly, some people told the chaged people that a woman wearing headscarf was in the party. Then, a charged person called Mr. Ertekin out of party and warned Mr. Ertekin. He went back by his wife and very quickly they left the party together. Mr. Ertekin answered the questions of the press at exit of Hotel and went home by his official car.

Investigation for The ‘Warning About Headscarf’ At The Reception
Governor of Province of Şanliurfa, Nuri Okutan, said that he was not notice of the event that Chairman of Chamber of Commerce, Eyüp Sabri Ertekin, had been warned at the reception for October the 29th Celebrations of the foundation of Turkish Republic. He said that he did not know at that time that some people warned Mr. Ertekin and expelled them out of the party. He added that he will make necessary disciplinary steps about those that are responsible
of this event. Mr.Ertekin thanked the Governor, Mr. Okutan and asked start of an investigation about the Clerk of the Governor who is responsible of the event.

Religion officers that were chosen after examinations for Germany by the Ministry of Religious Affairs faced with a ban while they were waiting to go to Germany. It has been requested that the wives and daughters of religion officers should be taken photos with their ears and necks are open to take a Germany visa. It has been written in the official website of German Embassy in the “Necessary portrait photos for visa application” link that the photos should be free from headscarves as an essential condition for visas.

Insult from the forbidder teacher to the students who wear headscarf!
In Eskisehir, two girl students experienced insult and verbal attack by their history teacher while they were doing farewell upon their certificate reception. Zeynep Aka (17) ve Sura Guldas (17) had transferred from Hoca Ahmet Yesevi High School to Yunus Emre High School due to the class schedule unfit with their university preparation school. Meanwhile they wanted to pay a visit to their previous school teachers for a farewell after receiving their documents to leave. Aka and Guldas came across with the history teacher Sevda Goksen (42) at the entrance of the teachers room. Sevda Goksen got angry when she saw the students with their headscarves and screamed “This is a state intuition; you cannot come in here this way.” Aka and Guldas replied her “We are not students at this school anymore; As civilians we are here now to say goodbye to the teachers. The administrators even saw us this way and we are going to leave right after this farewell.” According to the information reflected on the application, teacher Goksen insulted the two students heavily in front of their friends and forced them to the administration office with pushing repeatedly. While the administration wanted to settle the issue calmly, teacher Goksen continued her insulting and pushing the young girls outside of the school. The two students bursed into tears as pushed out from the school they have been for years. The two students complained to the National Education Ministry of mentioning they did not deserve such an insulting treatment due to their outfit

A girl wearing headscarf is a student in Hamvarat Primary school in the center of Diyarbakır. Due to wearing headscarf, she was taken into room for persuading her to taking off her headscarf. Teachers put psychological pressure on her. After being unsuccessful by these methods, they forced her signing a minute. Lastly, she was uprooted from her familiar school and school friends by being banished to Vali Nafiz Kaya Primary School which is far from her home.
